The unusual set comprising a five-tiered set of identical suzuribako, the bottom writing box fixed to the footed base and the set contained by a sheath cover, each box decorated in takamaki-e, lavish cut gold patterns and nashiji with various parts of a landscape which, when the boxes are stacked, form a scene of flowering cherries by a rock and hillock-bordered stream under clouds, the interior of each writing box nashiji and fitted with an ink stone and silver mizuire cast in the form of clustered cherry blossoms, the sheath cover rendered in takamaki-e on a roiro ground with dense foliate scroll centering a recessed panel of further flowering cherries by a rushing stream- 11 1/2 x 8 1/4 x 9 1/4 in.
