Lot Essay

Tiffany's records describe this vase, designed in 1889, as "Love Cup, Ivory Tusk, Indian." A nearly indentical two-handled cup is illustrated in Tiffany's 150 Years, 1987, p. 78. A famous trophy cup similar to this design is the Morgan Cup of 1887, a tusk tankard with a single dragon handle from the same mold as those on the present example. The Morgan Cup is in the collection of the New York Yacht Club and is illustrated in Charles H. Carpenter, Jr., Tiffany Silver , 1978, fig. 242, p. 175.
