A VICTORIAN ENGRAVED MOTHER-OF-PEARL JEWEL CABINET
CIRCA 1849

Of stepped breakfronted outline, the upper section hinged in two parts, one enclosing crimson velvet trays, a mirror and secret drawers, the other with crimson velvet interior and removable section with nine drawers, above a pair of cabinet doors each centering a classical muse within an arch enclosing four drawers, above a drawer, the sides similarly fitted with a cabinet door enclosing a walnut interior, above a writing drawer, on faceted ball feet; together with its original paper lottery ticket dated 1849 and printed at both sides. One side reads as follows: 'Indigent Gentlemen's Fund. Mother of Pearl Cabinet worth at least 150 guineas. Ticket No. 305. To be drawn for at the Grand National Fancy Bazaar to be held in the week of Christmas next in the Music Hall Edinburgh, to form a Sinking Fund for this Institution, or if the requisite number of tickets (see other side) are not by that time disposed of, the drawing will take place in Gibbs Royal Saloon Princes St. on the 1st day of Feby ensuing at 12 o'clock, noon'- 19½in.(49cm.) high, 25½in.(65cm.) wide, 18½in.(47cm.) deep
