A NARA SCHOOL TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700), SIGNED KANESHIGE
The oval iron plate has a lightly hammered surface with a rounded rim and edge. The right half of the face is carved in high relief and inlaid in gold with shakudo and sheet nunome with a design of Fudo Myo-o under a waterfall. The reverse is partially decorated with clouds and waterfall, in shakudo and gold--height 7.5cm., width 7.3cm., thickness 4.0mm.
