Lot Essay

Ishiguro Koreyoshi (died 1887) was the son of Ishiguro Masayoshi (d. 1843) and the student of Ishiguro Koretsune II (fl. 1850). He was equal in ability to both his father and his teacher. The fuchi depicts Miho no Matsubara, a famous place for viewing Mt. Fuji. In the Moslé collection this was a fuchi kashira set. The kashira is now lost, but a reproduction of it can be seen in the Moslé catalogue, as cited. The kashira depicted Mt. Fuji above clouds with water at its base, in the same style as the fuchi.
