1932 LOU GEHRIG YANKEE CONTRACT
The American League Players Contract between the American League Baseball Club of New York (Yankees) and Henry Lou Gehrig for the year 1932. The contract provides that Gehrig be paid $25,000 for the season. On the second page, a specific covenant stating that the club would pay him an extra one thousand dollars at the end of the season, if approved by manager McCarthy. In 1932 Gehrig batted .349 with thirty-four home runs and one hundred fifty-one runs batted in, striking out only thirty-eight times; presumably, Gehrig got his bonus. The contract is signed by Lou Gehrig and Jacob Ruppert for the Yankees, also signed and approved by William Harridge.
This contract was recently matter of legal action. It was allegedly extorted from its owner and later recovered by authorities when a dealer tried to sel it back to its rightful owner the story of which was reported by the Associated Press.
