COCKERELL, Sir SYDNEY. Autograph manuscript of "Notes on my friendship with Ruskin." [?Cambridge] 1920. 44 pages, 4to, written in ink (mainly) and pencil on the lined rectos in a notebook, original wrappers, a working draft with extensive revisions by Cockerell; with his name and Cambridge address on inside front cover, dated at end by him "Dec 7 1920," and inscribed by him at top of first page: "To Gwen Simnett my very dear friend from Sydney Cockerell, 17 Sept 1949."
This manuscript was written to accompany Ruskin's nineteen letters to Cockerell during the years 1886-1888; the letters are indicated in the margins of the manuscript at the relevant places. A version of the manuscript, with revisions and omitting at least one paragraph, was printed as the section on John Ruskin in Friends of a Lifetime: Letters to Sydney Carlyle Cockerell, ed. Viola Meynell (1940), pp. 20-61.
