Lot Essay

A letter discussing the painting, dated 12-3-15, from the artist to John Dorr Bradley, a previous owner, accompanies the lot. In the letter, Vonnoh wrote: "I call it Moist Weather (France). It was painted in 1890, or a little before, at Grez sur Loing - Seine et Marne; where I have a little country place. I considered it one of the most successful things that I had done and it was shown in several of my exhibitions around that period." Bradley purchased the painting after viewing it at an exhibition in 1915 at the Art Institute of Chicago.
