A LARGE SHIBAYAMA SHAKUDO KORO
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED MUNEMITSU
The hexagonal censer rising from a hexagonal foot to a hexagonal neck supporting the domed, hexagonal cover, the whole finished in shakudo with applied silver phoenix heads and wings at each of the six corners and with applied silver and enamel floral sprays echoed on the neck and foot and cover, the sides of the censer decorated with gold lacquer panels encrusted in mother of pearl and colored ivory with birds and flowers, the whole resting on a silver hexagonal support of shishi heads and legs and the cover surmounted by a bronze eagle, now partially silvered, interior well lined in silver- 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) high, losses to inlay, old restoration, one silver and enamel plaque missing
