Lot Essay

The combination of delicately inlaid C-scrolls framing cartouches of richly figured walnut with ivory inlaid figures is a characteristic of the Braunschweig region. A cabinet with similar marquetry panels in the State Museum, Braunschweig, is illustrated in H. Kreisel, Die Künst des Deutschen Möbels, Munich, 1970, vol.II, p.87, fig. 86. Other
realted cabinets from Braunschweig are illustrated ibid. figs. 875-879.
