Lot Essay

This bronze of the philosopher and writer Voltaire was inspired by Voltaire assis (1770-1780) by Jean Antoine Houdon (1741-1828). Other monumental versions of this model are now in the Comédie Française (originally made for Voltaire's niece) and in the Hermitage (originally made for Catherine III of Russia).
