AN ORIGINAL MURAL FROM PARAMOUNT STUDIOS IN NEW YORK, CIRCA 1920'S
The oil on canvas mural was designed and painted for the Paramount Pictures New York studios, possibly by Paramount Pictures staff artists. The building, located in Astoria, Queens in New York, was opened in 1921; in the late 1930's Paramount moved to California and the location was taken over by the U.S. Government where the Armed Forces produced informational films in support of World War II. The brightly colored mural features many stars of the day including Edward G. Robinson, The Marx Brothers, Gary Cooper, Marlene Deitrich and Rudolf Valentino. The inscription in the upper left corner reads "This building was opened by Adolf Zukor for Paramount Pictures in 1921. These pictures are from movies produced and released by Paramount."--5 x 15½ ft.
