Modelled as Marie Antoinette in peasant clothes standing with one hand on her hip and leaning on a pedestal surmounted by a bust of the Dauphin, the base of the pedestal flanked by a harp, doves, a basket of flowers, trophies and a fence all above a grotto and shell base--35½in. (90cm.) high

Lot Essay

The archives at the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres record the manufacture of only two of these groups in 1908. One was presented in 1924 by the French President Raymone Poincare to Plutarco Elías Calles, President of Mexico. By tradition, this is the group that belonged to President Calles.
