(Small paper repair at lower margin of first quire, two tiny wormholes in final quires, one just touching a few letters in last few leaves.) 18th-century sheep over pasteboard, triple fillet border to sides, single gilt fleuron in spine compartments, marbled endpapers, yellow edges (rubbed, discreet repairs to spine ends).
FIRST EDITION of Sabellicus's magnum opus, a universal history from Creation to his own time. The elegant white-ground woodcut capitals make their first appearance here. Essling (1157) considered them perhaps the most beautiful printed at Venice.
