Lot Essay
Richards studied at the Clarence White School from 1918-19 and 1923. She was a member of Pictorial Photographers of America, and a colleague of Paul Outerbridge, Jr.'s. From 1924-28 she was doing advertising photography in Chicago. She was one of the first female commercial photographers working for Vogue, and became a leading figure in the New York fashion scene from 1928-48. From 1943 through the 1950s she photographed for the Cotton Council.
