A COLLECTION OF HANDWRITTEN GRETA GARBO LETTERS
A rare collection of nine handwritten letters from legendary actress Greta Garbo to dear friend Sydney Guilaroff. The two first met in 1934 on the set of Camille and remained friends throughout the years. All in Ms. Garbo's hand in pencil, the letters which include the original stamped envelopes, were written in the early 1960's. They portray the famous recluse in a state of depression and need, reaching out for Mr. Guilaroff's friendship. All the letters are addressed to Gilly, or Gilly Boy, and are signed Harry or Harry Boy, referring to Ms. Garbo's alias, Harriet Brown.
"...I suppose they are going to keep you where the boys are: To come back to bread for a moment, if I were a really good man I would learn how to bake one....But for that you have to be close by someone who would swoon over it...Love, Harry
"...I don't know what to say, I have again troubles where I had it before. I am panicky.
Dear, dear, dear, d, d, d, d, Gilly...Thank you darling person, but there is nothing you could do at the moment. When I don't feel very well, I go more tightly in the corner. I am afraid of talking about things too much...Harry
