Although he was assisted during the first year by N.A. Stepanov and I.I. Pal'm, the true creator of this visually vertiginous album that stands as the first Russian collection of caricatures was the ascerbic Mikhail L'vovich Nevakhovich. The work was issued in four fascicles yearly, and complete sets were even in the early years of this century counted a rarity. Obol'ianinov 1706; Burtsev 388.
