A LARGE INLAID LACQUER TABLE SCREEN
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED MASAYUKI
Composed of two rectangular panels set with recessed panels inlaid in colored ivory, horn and mother-of-pearl with a scene of merry-making under the cherry trees before a backdrop of Mt. Fuji and a lake, the background of gold lacquer rendered in various techniques including takamaki-e, togidashi and kirigane with details in kimpun and colored lacquer, the area below the figure panels set with two matching moriage ginbari cloisonne enamel panels of fish and water plants, the reverse of each panel decorated in iro-e togidashi with stands of peonies and a brush fence below lower panels of butterflies, silver mounts, losses and old damages, some losses restored- 17 3/4 x 10 5/8 in. (45.2 x 27 cm.)
