A KAKIEMON OCTAGONAL BOWL
EDO PERIOD (LATE 17TH CENTURY)

Set on a ring foot enclosing a recessed base with rounded side walls rising to a slanted rim and painted in enamels of iron-red, blue, turquoise, pale yellow and gilt with a large, snarling dragon and a stand of bamboo below a band of iron-red, turquoise and blue foliate scroll with large blossoms colored in iron-red and smaller blossoms gilt, the rim edge chocolate- 9 5/16 in. (23.7 cm.) diameter, rim chip restored
