A similar composition by Loarte, signed and dated 'Alexandro de Loarte fat. año 1624', entitled 'La Nave Eucaristica', is in the parish church of Los Yébenes, Toledo. Loarte's painting follows an engraving from Padre Mercedario Melchor Prieto's book Psalmodia Eucharistica, published in Madrid in 1622. Prieto's religious order was known for their belief in the importance of Christian patience (see D. Angulo Iñiguez and A.E. Pérez Sánchez, Historia de la Pintura Española: Pintura Toledana Primera Mitad del Siglio XVII, 1972, II, pp. 216-17, no. 55, pl. 160)
