Lot Essay

The artist was the son and student of Georg Liszewski (1674-1750). He worked at the Anhalt-Dessau court, and is known to have painted portraits of Duke Eugene Anhalt. In 1768 he went to Dresden and in 1772 he returned to Berlin, where he continued to be active as a portraitist and became the court painter of Mecklenburg-Schwerin
