The incised serpentine crest centering an arched foliate reserve flanked by shaped ears above a solid vase-shaped splat flanked by incised S-scrolled stiles over serpentine arms with carved handholds above shaped supports over a trapezoidal slip seat above a deeply shaped apron, on cabriole legs with chamfered knees with stocking trifid feet--42in. high

Lot Essay

A hand written notation in George W. Scott Jr's ledger indicates that this chair was found in the original Moravian church West Orange Street, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This armchair is in the Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur Museum Decorative Arts Photographic Collection no. 78.1559
