Lot Essay

A handwritten note to Hattie Brunner from from Arthur E. Freeman dated September 27, 1932 states,"The Egg which I am sending you was made for Katie Metzur the year is dated 1816. I procured (it) from one of her great grandchildren a Charles Matteus living near Straussberg, Pennsylvania."

The Easter tradition of a rabbit and decorated eggs is an 18th century Palatine German contribution to Anglo America.
