With the partictipation of the Loetz glasshouse in the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris, Max Spaun, the driving force of the company, helped to establish an international reputation for the manufacturer. Spaun engaged outside artists to design various pieces for the World's Fair, including the Southern German painter Franz Hofstätter (1871-1958). At least thirteen designs, including this model can be attributed to the work of Franz Hofstätter.
