PESARO, CIRCA 1540

The shallow footed dish painted on a white ground in shades of yellow, blue, green, ochre and manganese enriched with white highlights with the story of Diana and Acteon, the underside inscribed with the subject within yellow concentric lines and inscribed in red with Sackler number 78.2.13 (wear to edge, test drill holes to footrim filled)--10¼in. (26cm.) diam.

The inscription reads: Ato Trsforso In Cervo (Acteon transformed into a stag).

Sold with thermoluminescence certificate 381q58 dated September 1985 from the Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art, Oxford University, stating that the sample tested was last fired between 320 and 490 years ago (1495-1665).
