Ownership inscription on front free endpaper which reads: "The property of Mr. John Williams. Presented by [?] Ward." John Williams is possibly John Foster Williams, naval officer and surveyor who in 1797 examined the coast of Maine to determine the various localities visited by George Waymouth and in 1803 surveyed Nantasket Harbor.
