AN INCISED CELADON CUP AND INLAID CELADON CUP STAND
KORYO DYNASTY (13TH CENTURY)

The petal-form cup set on a tall, flared and slightly fluted foot with curved walls rising to the foliate rim, incised on each of the eight sides with a single foliate spray and around the rim with short, parallel lines, covered overall with a celadon glaze pooling slightly in the recesses; the cup stand set on a tall, slightly flared and petal foot, incised on each of the eight sides with another foliate spray, the foot supporting the wide, eight-lobed surface of the stand which is recessed in the middle and which is moulded with a high, rounded lotiform base for the cup, each of the eight lobes ornamented with white and black inlay with a chrysanthemum spray and incised on the lotiform base, the entire stand covered with a celadon glaze, more green and crystalline in places- cup 2 3/8 in. (6 cm.) high; stand 2 3/8 in. (6 cm.) high, 5 3/4 in. (14.7 cm.) diameter
