QIANLONG INCISED AND GILDED SEAL MARK, THE INSCRIPTION DATED QIANLONG BING YIN YEAR, CORRESPONDING TO 1746, AND OF THE PERIOD

With deep rounded sides rising to a flared rim, supported on a thick cylindrical foot, decorated on the exterior with a wide central band containing a lengthy inscription in well-executed kai shu followed by a Qianlong yu ti mark and two seals, Qian and long, the inscription bordered by lightly incised bands of joined ruyi heads at the rim and foot, all picked out in gilding, the semi-translucent stone with a soft, even polish and some faint white inclusions--4 3/8in. (10.6cm.) diam.

The inscription is a poem and refers to the purity of the hue of the plum blossom, the fragrance of the Buddha's hand and the scent of the pine kernel, as well as to offerings of nectar as food for the immortal 'Woquan'
