A drawing in the same technique of a man asleep with a hat obscuring the face, the features drawn with the same economy of detail as in the present study, signed, dated and inscribed 'd'aprés nature à l'observatoire 1768 ' is in a private collection, Paris. As the date on the present drawing would mean that it was drawn when the artist was only eleven, it is possible that he dated this later and made a mistake
