Lot Essay

This monumental wood is comparable in treatmment of the body and drapery to a large white glazed faience statue (116.8cm.) by Johan Martel Mutschell c. 1771. This impressive figure of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception is now in The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
