Lot Essay

Traditionally, this teapot has been attributed to William Greatbatch. However, in view of the excavations at the factory at Fenton, the finial, handle, and spout combination bear no resemblance to shards found. For a discussion on the problems of assigning pieces of this type to a particular factory, see Barker, Greatbatch, pp. 93-94 and p. 261
