Lot Essay

From 1761-1790, Wedgwood employed John Sadler and Guy Green of Liverpool to transfer print onto Queen's ware. Wedgwood would sell them blank pieces and buy them back once decorated. Cf. Reill, Wedgwood, Vol. I, pp. 209-246 for an indepth discussion of the business practices which bound the two firms together.
