Lot Essay

William and Thomas Wilkinson were successors to Wilkinson & Sons and succeeded by Thomas Wilkinson & Co. They were listed at 9 and 10 Broker Row, Moorfields, London from 1790-1811. Their speciality was extension tables and in 1807, they advertised tables 'absolutely original in their Consturction' which when closed occupied 'a space considerable smaller than is necessary for the standing of any other dining table now in use' (G. Beard and C. Gilbert, Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, 1986, p. 977).
