The attribution Buteux was proposed by Françoise Magny in 1972. The drawing is comparable with designs for frames in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris (inv. A 35634, 438635 and 35549, the Witt Collection, London (inv. 4241) and the Kunstbibliothek, Berlin (Hdz. 64580)
