For a full discussion of the importance of this series in the artist's oeuvre, please see Athena T. Spear's article "Elie Nadelman's Early Heads, 1905-1911" in the Allen Memorial Art Museum Bulletin, Oberlin College, v. 28, No. 3, Spring 1971.
