Further details
Freedom, by Thomas Crawford, was engraved by Owen G. Hanks. The original sculpture was recently lifted from the apex of the Capitol dome by helicopter, restored and then replaced.
Civil War priorities prevented Freedom from taking her position until 12 noon on December 2, 1863. Therefore, the engraving of Crawford's bronze figure appeared on this note before it was placed on the Capitol dome.
The engraved portrait of Alexander Hamilton is based on a painting by Archibald Robertson.
