David Hockly entered his first mark as a smallworker in 1810; subsequently he was in partnership with Thomas Bosworth. In 1819 he emigrated to Cape Town where he carried on business as a silversmith. He made the head of a staff of office presented to Andries Waterboer, Chief of the Grinquas in 1834. He died at Graaff-Reinet in 1835.
