Lot Essay

The arms are those of Charles, 1st Baron Bayning, born in 1728, the eldest son of William Townsend, groom of the Bedchamber to Frederick, Prince of Wales and grandson of Charles, 2nd Viscount Townsend. He married in 1777 Annabella Powlette, daughter of the Rev. Richard Smyth. He was created a Baron in 1797 and died in 1810.
