Lot Essay

Thomas Butler established his business as a supplier of patent furniture in 1787, briefly employing Thomas Morgan and Joseph Sanders before they set up their own business in 1801. He closed and re-opened his establishment on two occasions (see: F. Collard, Regency Furniture, Woodbridge, 1985, p. 330 and The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers, Leeds, 1986, pp. 137-138).
