Lot Essay

This chair is based on a design in Thomas King's The Modern Style of Cabinet Work Exemplified, J. Weale, a pattern book that was first published in 1829 and continued to be reissued until 1862 (reproduced in Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design, p. 147). King was a London upholsterer who published some fifteen furniture books between 1829-1839.
