Lot Essay

Born in Naples, Caruso (1873-1921) was the most admired Italian operatic tenor of the early 20th Century and was the first leading musician to record his voice on records. While little is known about his career in the fine arts, he did create several portraits which were cast by the Roman Bronze Works foundry.
