Similar wine syphons include an example by Thomas Harache, circa 1750, exhibited in The Goldsmith and the Grape, Goldsmiths' Hall, London, 1983; another by the same maker was sold by Christie's, London, October 6, 1983, while one identical to the present example by Phipps & Robinson, 1793, was sold from the Bresciani Collection, in these Rooms, October 27, 1987, lot 740. An American example by Marquand, circa 1825, is in the Du Pont Collection at Winterthur, Delaware.
