Lot Essay

Kepes headed the photography department at the New Bauhaus. The "Light Workshop" emphasized the optical phenomenon that was to be studied and used as a means of creative form. An insight into optical law and order was achieved through manipulating the illusion of space by the autonomous placement of light that allowed for a reduction of 3-D reality into 2-D illusion.
