Lee Chong-Woo graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. In 1924 his work was selected for the third "Sun" exhibition in Seoul. He spent 1925 in Paris, the first Korean painter known to have studied abroad. He had a one-person exhibition of the paintings he made in Paris at Dong Ah Il Bo (a leading Korean newspaper) in 1928. He exhibited again with Dong Ah Il Bo's Sin Moon Gallery in 1957 and 1974.
