Lot Essay

In the 1890s, Twachtman was commissioned to paint a series of scenes of Niagara Falls for Charles Carey of Buffalo. Niagara Gorge is one of the pictures from that series. This painting will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Twachtman's work being compiled by Ira Spanierman and Lisa N. Peters.
