Of circular, cushion form, delicately pierced with scrolling foliage and flowerheads on all the surfaces including the base, the translucent stone suffused with opaque white mottling and with some russet staining, some repairs--7 7/8in. (19.7cm.) diam.

A very similar covered incense burner of just slightly smaller size in the collection of the Norbu Lingka monastery, Tibet, is illustrated in Zhongguo Wenwu Jinghua, 1992, pl.85, and described as "probably crafted in Suzhou and presented to the Dalai Lama by the Qianlong emperor"
