FIVE SYRIAN CYLINDER SEALS
CIRCA 1920-1840 B.C.

One of hematite engraved with a seated figure holding a bird, and a female figure before a head standard, and between them, two crossed figures holding heads, two pairs of small worhipers, one pair reversed, as the terminal, 18 x 10 mm, one of gray marble engraved with a standing figure in front of a seated figure, and a deity in ascending position over a lion held by a leash, with two crossed figures between the two groups, a reversed figure over the lion, a mongoose, and unintelligible forms in the field, star disc and crescent in the sky, 19 x 11 mm, one of hematite engraved with a worshiper facing a seated deity, and a female figure standing before a head standard, a jar with a curved tube, a mongoose, and two rampant antelopes in the field, star disc and crescent in the sky, couchant animal on a tall structure as the terminal, 14 x 8 mm, one of black serpentine engraved with a worshiper and a kneeling figure before a seated figure holding a cup, to the left, a kilted figure with a staff faces a female figure, a star disc and crescent in the sky, head standard on animal stand, ball staff, and stand as the terminal, 15 x 8 mm, and one of hematite engraved with a standing worshiper facing a deity in ascending position, with a female figure before a head standard to the left, a table in the field, a crescent in the sky, a verticle row of human heads as the terminal, 16 x 8 mm (5)
