Lot Essay

Washida Mitsutoki (1796-1862) was the son of Washida Tokitaka (1776-1833). A comparable Mitsutoki tsuba was sold in these rooms in the Collection of Walter A. Compton Part I, March 31, 1992, lot 98. See Nagaoka Koki Shonai Kinko no Kenkyu (Tokyo 1933), pl.179 top, for a similar example.
