MUROMACHI/EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1500-1850)
The iron tsuba comprising: a mokko plate pierced with a scroll design, (Katchushi style, circa 1500)--7.8cm. h., 7.5cm. w., 3.5mm. th.; an oblong mokko plate with a woodgrain surface, (circa 1800)--8cm. h., 6.9cm. w., 4mm. th.; an oval plate carved in high relief with waves and plovers in gilt and shibuichi, (Edo Higo Kumagai school, circa 1750)--8.5cm. h., 8.1cm. w., 4mm. th.; a pierced plate formed as crashing waves, (circa 1850)--8.1cm. h., 7.5cm. w., 4mm. th.; a round plate formed as two leaves and stems, signed Choshu ju Tomoyuki, (circa 1830)--6.8cm. h. 4.5mm. th.; a round plate pierced with a design of an umbrella and three snowflakes, (Kyo Shoami school, circa 1700)--8cm. h., 5mm. th.; an eight-sided plate with raised rim inlaid with flush brass leaves, the web carved in vertical wood grain and inlaid with a shibuichi tiger (later addition), (circa 1700)--7.3cm. h., 3.5mm. th.; a round plate with radiating file marks, (Shoami school, circa 1650)--7.5cm. h., 5mm. th.; and a round sammai awase (three layer), shakudo plate formed as a bull within a rope rim, (circa 1650)--7.5cm. h., 6mm. th.
