EARLY MUROMACHI PERIOD (SECOND QUARTER 15TH CENTURY)
Configuration (sugata): of flat, wedge section (hira-zukuri) with shallow peaked back (iori-mune); length (nagasa): 9 sun, 1.4 bu (27.7 cm.); curvature (sori): 0.3 cm.
Forging pattern (jihada): itame.
Tempering pattern (hamon): chu-suguba in ko-nie.
Point (boshi): pointed with long kaeri.
Tang (nakago) shape (keitai): regular, slightly uplifted and with a dry, brown patina; file marks (yasurime): katte-sagari; end (nakagojiri): kuri-jiri; holes (mekugi-ana): one (double); signature (mei), Bishu (no) ju Naganori.
Tanto koshirae comprising: a black ishime saya; odd iron kogai; copper Yasuchika style tsuba decorated with an owl in a tree, signed with a kao; white-wrapped tsuka fitted with gilt and copper menuki of an oni and drum and pair of Nara-style iron fuchi-kashira, unsigned---length of koshirae 55.7, length of kogai 21.2, length of tsuka 13.3 cm, height of tsuba 5.7 cm.
